WINERY & VENUE
ON THE HILL
AT THE R-

On a hill along Texas State Highway 6 on the Comanche and Erath county line, Cade & Jessica Richmond are preparing to share their love of the land through War Horse Winery & Venue, with a vineyard, lodging and an event venue On the Hill at the R-.

The land holds artifacts of Spanish, Comanche, pioneer and cowboy history, and of the many travelers history never recorded. Comanche County carries the name of the Comanche people who made their home here.

Dublin, also on Highway 6, is said to take its name from the pioneers’ call to “double in” their wagons, gathering together for protection from Comanche raids. To the west, De Leon takes its name from the Leon River, named by Spanish explorers for Alonso de León. Nearby Stephenville is the seat of Erath County, named for George Bernard Erath, an early surveyor who fought at the Battle of San Jacinto in the Texas Revolution. Known today as the Cowboy Capital of the World, Stephenville is also home to Tarleton State University, founded through the estate of John Tarleton, an eccentric rancher said to have walked from Tennessee to Texas.

Many who crossed this land chose the horse to help carry their dreams and burdens. War Horse will stand honoring all the history and cultures that crossed this land.

Below the elevated hill country views lies Cade Richmond Hay, Land & Cattle Co., a modern production agriculture operation. War Horse will serve farm-to-table foods featuring R- beef raised on the ranch and showcase fresh dairy and cheeses from local artisans. The War Horse vineyard and grounds are for those who enjoy an outdoor-loving lifestyle, a place to gather, share their dreams and rest their burdens.
